The Invitation

Isaiah 55:1 says:
"Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost."
That first word says it all: “Come…” God has extended an invitation. It’s up to me to respond.

I think especially of John 7:37, which says:
"Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, ‘If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.’"
I notice that the word “come” is now qualified: “Come to me,” says Jesus.

Again, Revelation 22:17 comes to mind:
"The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ And let him who hears say, ‘Come!’ Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life."
The invitation is open. I’m going to respond to that invitation today.
